Natural Remedies For Sleep Apnea

There are a couple of different natural remedies for sleep apnea. I'm going to give you a list of the top three.

Opening Your Airway:

If you've ever been trained in CPR, or know anyone who works in a hospital, this is the first thing they learn to help save someone's life. What happens during sleep apnea is your airway is being cut off by extra weight or by flaps of skin in your mouth that cover your airway. Both can be fixed. but you have to know how to open the airway so that your airway is not covered and you can breathe. To do this, get a small cylinder shaped pillow and put it under your neck. You must be on your back for this to work. Once the pillow is placed under your head, it forces you to tilt your neck. Tilting your neck is what medical professionals are trained to do to open the airway in the first place. Keep in mind that depending on your weight, this may not work as effectively, because eventually the pillow will flatten due to significant amounts of pressure. Get a cylindrical pillow that is very sturdy.

Getting exercise:

The second of the natural remedies for sleep apnea is to exercise. Not a lot of people like this idea, however it's very important that your body can handle the weight that is placed over the airway. Much of the time with sleep apnea, the weight is much greater than it's supposed to be, and your muscles struggle to hold up whatever is covering your airway and keeping you from breathing well. If you strengthen the muscles that allow you to breathe (your diaphram, and abdominal muscles) then you'll have a higher chance of getting over sleep apnea. Endurance exercises like raquetball, running, fencing help your body train itself to more efficiently use oxygen. This way you need less to function at an optimal level. Notice though that I said running and not jogging.

Keep in mind that your sleep apnea may be more severe than what these remedies will be able to do for you. It's important to see your doctor FIRST, and before you do anything.
