Natural Sleep Remedies
Melatonin
Melatonin is actually a hormone that is produced in the body that regulates your sleep pattern. It is produced when you're body is normally ready to fall asleep (at night) and stops being produced in the morning when the sun rises. Nutritionists and other health specialists found a way to synthesis (man-make the hormone) in trace amounts and induce sleep by using it in capsule form.
L-theanine
This is on of the natural sleep remedies found in green tea. It raise the levels of a neurotransmitter (hormone in the brain) called GABA. The increase of GABA cause a relaxation-response, and can ease anxiety-induced insomnia without grogginess.
Other Types of Tea
There are a few different types of tea that are used in the category of "natural sleep remedies". You can combine Passionflower and skullcap...or even use camomile and mint. There are plenty of places around the internet that will recommend different natural sleep remedies, and most if not all of them work for many people.
Valerian
Valerian is a well know natural sleep remedy. It works by getting into your central nervous system and causing your body to relax the muscles. Some people take valerian in the form of tea, but you can buy them in natural health shops in capsule form. Not everyone reacts to valerian the same way, so don't try to operate machinery or drive after you've taken it. Some people actually can become "wired" and it will have the opposite effect on them. Make sure that if you're taking any other medication to let your doctor know FIRST because valerian may interfere with those medications. It happens all the time, so be careful.
